In 1921, a group of golf enthusiasts met in ‘Sconset to discuss acquiring the area known as Mayflower Hill for a clubhouse and golf course. Following that meeting, 29 parcels of land were purchased at $20 per acre and plans were made for laying out the property. By September of 1922, more than 150 members were playing golf at Sankaty Head.

Today, that number has grown to include over 500 members, seasonal visitors, and national and international golf champions. Many of those members were in attendance at the golf club’s 100th year centennial party Saturday night. Originally scheduled for last year but canceled due to the pandemic, the party included dinner, drinks, and dancing to celebrate Sankaty and all its changes over the years.
