Hospital Thrift Shop: Opening Day

Photos by Bill Hoenk

The Hospital Thrift Shop reopened on Monday morning, May 8, for its 94th year in business supporting Nantucket Cottage Hospital. A sizable crowd lined up along India Street for what has become a popular springtime tradition looked forward to by island residents and visitors alike. Last year, the thrift shop raised a record $600,000 for the hospital, selling gently used clothing and household items donated by the community.

The proceeds were used to fund the purchase of a new state-of-the-art MRI machine. Since its founding in 1929, the thrift shop has donated over $6.9 million to the hospital.
