Juneteenth on Nantucket

PHOTOGRAPHY BY BILL HOENK

Last week's Juneteenth celebrations included guided tours of the Historic Colored Cemetery, led by Nantucket historians Fran Karttunen and Barbara White. Later, the community gathered at the African Meeting House on Nantucket, where a cookout took place featuring games, crafts for kids, music by DJ Jahved, and food provided by Nantucket Island Creations. The events were a collaborative effort between the Town of Nantucket, Museum of African American History, Nantucket Cultural District, Nantucket Historical Association, and Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce.
