Nantucket Film Festival, the island’s three-decades-long celebration of movies, wrapped up on Monday after six days of screenings, talkbacks with filmmakers, and gatherings with writers, producers, actors, and more. In addition to screening more than 70 films, this year’s festival saw the return of a number of signature programs.

How Did This Get Made?

On Thursday night at Nantucket Dreamland, hosts Paul Scheer, June Diane Raphael, and Jason Mantzoukas took the stage for a live taping of their podcast How Did This Get Made? Known for discussing movies that are so bad they’re good, the trio reviewed Bait 3D, a film about a group of people trapped in a grocery store submerged by a freak tsunami, while being hunted by a bloodthirsty great white shark. How Did This Get Made? has built a global audience, numerous awards, and reviewed hundreds of movies since its launch nearly 15 years ago.

Screenwriters Tribute

The popular Screenwriters Tribute returned to the ‘Sconset Casino on Friday, hosted this year by comedian and radio personality Ophira Eisenberg. During the event, director and film producer Roger Ross Williams, who made history in 2009 by becoming the first African American director to win an Academy Award, accepted the Career Achievement in Filmmaking Award, presented by author and anti-racism activist Dr. Ibram X. Kendi. Writer and producer Kerry Ehrin, known for her work on The Morning Show, was honored with the Excellence in Television Writing Award, and Emmy Award-winning writer and producer Meredith Scardino received the New Voices in Television Writing Award.

Garden Conversation

Festival goers spent Sunday morning at the Hulbert Avenue home of Cecelia Joyce Johnson, for a conversation with a panel of notable screenwriters and actors. Panelists included Kerry Ehrin, Renèe Elise Goldsberry, Paula Pell, and Meredith Scardino.
