Morton the Sea Monster made his long-awaited return to Nantucket over the weekend, 87 years after renowned illustrator and former Nantucket resident Tony Sarg first introduced him to the island, in an elaborate media hoax orchestrated by Sarg and a few of his friends. The return of the sea monster, though a replica and not the original, was part of Sarg Community Day, an event organized by the Nantucket Historical Association to celebrate Sarg’s lasting legacy on the island.
