Sense and Sensibility

Theatre Workshop of Nantucket opened their summer 2024 season with Sense & Sensibility. Set in gossipy late 18th-century England, the adaptation of the beloved Jane Austen follows the fortunes and misfortunes of the Dashwood sisters after their father's sudden death leaves them financially destitute and socially vulnerable. Theatre Workshop describes the play as being "full of humor, emotional depth, and bold theatricality" with a "fresh female voice." In a review for The New York Times, one critic called the play "an unconditional delight," "invigorating," and "a bouncy, jaunty take on Austen" — all while remaining "remarkably true to the values and priorities of its source." Production of Sense & Sensibility runs through Saturday, June 22 on the Bennett Hall stage at 62 Centre Street.
