The 2024 Annual Town Meeting took place this week, with voters gathering in the Mary P. Walker Auditorium at Nantucket High School over two nights to debate various town issues. At its peak count, the audience of voters present during Tuesday’s session rose to over 1,300, representing a little over 13% of the island’s registered voters. During night one of the meeting, a measure that sought to legalize short-term vacation rentals islandwide came before voters but was ultimately defeated. Voters also weighed in on a variety of capital-spending proposals, the establishment of coastal-resilience impact districts, and several non-binding citizen’s petitions.
