A Festive Lighthouse Beacon

Last weekend, a crew from Coast Guard Station Brant Point continued their long-standing tradition of hanging a large daffodil-decorated wreath on the Brant Point Lighthouse. “The annual raising of the daffodil wreath at Brant Point lighthouse signifies the start of the season for many islanders,” noted The Inquirer and Mirror. Boatswain’s mate Charlie Smith was honored on his retirement after 20 years of service to the Coast Guard service. The display is now an eagerly anticipated appearance each spring for Nantucket residents and visitors alike. It serves as a prominent visual “season opener” for the tourist season and warmer weather ahead. Similarly, the holiday wreath on the Brant Point Lighthouse in December signifies the holidays and bookends another year ended before the slower pace of winter arrives.
