Under sunny skies on Sunday afternoon, Nantucketers paid tribute to the men and women who have given their lives to service in a branch of the U.S. military. Crowds lined downtown streets and followed the annual Memorial Day parade from the American Legion Hall to the town war memorial, then the Civil War monument on upper Main Street, before heading to Prospect Hill Cemetery for solemn ceremonies. The Highland Pipe Band from Cape Cod led the procession, which included island veterans, scouting groups, members of the Nantucket police and fire departments and Brant Point Coast Guard.
