Guide to Christmas Stroll Fashion
Feature by Arielle Holmes
Nantucket's Annual Christmas Stroll takes place the first weekend of December—the only time of year Main Street becomes a Christmas tree-lined fashion runway. The Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce puts on this fun weekend when the island undergoes a makeover. Each store, from Stephanies to Vis-A-Vis, decks out its window with holiday collections and decor. Beautiful Main Street is lined with Christmas trees and topped with one grand towering pine. Thousands of visitors gather on Main Street to celebrate Nantucket’s most fashionable weekend. Stroll is all about staying warm, staying festive, and being fabulous.
Few things are more iconic than the famous Nantucket Chamber of Commerce stroll scarf. Each year the scarf changes its festive design for a new, updated version, but the color scheme stays traditional with ruby reds, forest greens, and snow whites. This scarf is the medal of a successful shopping and dining getaway on the island.
To add to the unique elements of Nantucket’s Christmas Stroll, you’ll also find Kentucky Derby-style hats on many strollers’ heads. They range from cloches and bérets to beanies and traditional Santa Claus caps. Some are custom-made with feathers, fur and even rhinestones, while others are simple elf hats adorned with pointy ears or classic red and white.
Nantucket’s 47th Annual Chamber of Commerce Christmas Stroll is this weekend, Friday, December 3, through Sunday, December 5. Make sure to collect your red tickets and shop at all the local businesses, and don’t miss out on the Ugly Sweater Contest on Saturday, December 4, on Main Street.
The Nantucket Chamber of Commerce also has you covered with a list of festive events.
