Nantucket Garden Festival
The 12th annual Nantucket Garden Festival, a celebration of island gardening on July 13—15, 2021, highlighted the unique and beautiful garden ecosystems on Nantucket. The event included creative in-person and virtual lectures and workshops, exquisite garden tours and children’s activities.
During the festival, Peggy Cornett, curator of plants at Monticello, discussed how Thomas Jefferson, a staunch proponent of agrarianism and the owner, scientist and gardener at Monticello, endeavored to improve the lives of Americans through his research.
In her role, Cornett works to promote the importance of gardens and farms for the future by preserving, propagating, and maintaining a wide selection of heirloom vegetables, fruits, and herbs in the Monticello gardens today.
