In 1921, a group of golf enthusiasts met in ‘Sconset to discuss acquiring the area known as Mayflower Hill for a clubhouse and golf course. Following that meeting, 29 parcels of land were purchased at $20 per acre and plans were made for laying out the property. By September of 1922, more than 150 members were playing golf at Sankaty Head.

On July 5, 2021, Sankaty Head Golf Club celebrated its 100th anniversary, a couple of months ahead of its first USGA Championship.
