Fishing for Scallops

Recreational fishing for scallops began Wednesday with a partly sunny and breezy weather pattern — a welcome forecast for those eager to wade into waist-deep harbor water for Nantucket's famously sweet and juicy mollusks. Because scallops are scarce in Madaket this year, Nantucket Harbor was the go-to spot for families and friends on opening day. Commercial harvesters will start their season on November 1.
