The 26th annual Nantucket Wine Festival is well underway this week, offering spectacular vintages from around the globe, along with today’s luminaries in the art of wine making. An opening reception at the White Elephant kicked things off Wednesday as the beginning to a fully-packed long weekend of tastings, dinners, lectures, and demonstrations. Begun as the brainchild of longtime island resident Denis Toner, the festival became a reality for the first time in 1997 and was held primarily at the Sconset Casino. Through the years the venues have changed, and this year nearly all events are centered around the downtown historic district.
