The Hospital Thrift Shop reopened Monday morning for its 95th year in business. The line stretched out the door and down India Street as dozens of shoppers eagerly waited to browse through merchandise donated over the winter by island residents and visitors. Founded in 1929 by a small group of volunteers, the thrift shop sells affordable, recycled clothing and household items to benefit Nantucket Cottage Hospital and its associated programs. Last year, the shop made a record $625,000 donation, which the hospital earmarked to fund housing for its staff.
