Addiction Solutions of Nantucket held its Run for Recovery fundraising event Sunday, September 25, 2022, to further its mission of helping those who are struggling with substance abuse disorders. The event promotes a lifestyle of health and fitness while also raising awareness about the stigma around addiction. As Addiction Solutions notes on its website, “Today, the stigma of addiction is seen as a primary barrier to effective addiction prevention, treatment and recovery efforts at the individual, family, community, and societal levels. Addiction stigma prevents too many people from getting the help they need.”
Until this year, the Run for Recovery event was held by Nantucket Rising, an island initiative spearheaded by therapist and life coach Darcie Evans that focuses on “diving in, making healthy life choices, and then taking flight.” Addiction Solutions thanked Evans for “all the work she has done to support” its cause.
Starting at Bartlett’s Farm, runners competed in a 5K race and walkers partook in a two-mile stroll through the coastal moors along the island’s south shore. Prizes were awarded to first, second, and third-place winners. For those who couldn’t attend the event in person, Addiction Solutions brought back a virtual option where runners could record their running times through a smartphone app and submit the information online.
