The Boston Pops on Nantucket returned to Jetties Beach on Saturday, August 13, 2022, marking the first time the concert has happened on Nantucket in nearly three years. The popular event was postponed in 2020 and 2021 due to pandemic. The concert proved yet again to be a rousing success, drawing around 5,500 attendees and raising an estimated $2.2 million for Nantucket Cottage Hospital. Thankfully, the weather cooperated and concertgoers enjoyed an evening of music, laughter, and a glorious Nantucket sunset.
Natalie Jacobson, longtime Nantucketer and former WCVB-TV news anchor of over 30 years, served as anchor for this year’s concert. She emceed on seven other occasions, including the first-ever Boston Pops on Nantucket concert in 1997, back when the legendary John Williams conducted the orchestra. Skyler Wright kicked things off with her rendition of the National Anthem. Wright grew up on the stages of the island’s community theater scene before moving to California and eventually scoring a part in the hit series Dexter: New Blood. Her performance was highlighted by a flyover by vintage World War II military planes.
