Since 2006, Sustainable Nantucket, a non-profit organization whose mission is to “preserve the community character of Nantucket while sustaining its economic and environmental vitality,” has offered a venue for islanders to come together and showcase the best of their bounty and creativity via its Farmers & Artisan Market. The market is represented by over 30 local farmers, value-added food producers, and artisans, whose products are all grown and produced on Nantucket.
Sustainable Nantucket held its most recent market this past Saturday, where vendors including Barrie Sanders of Barrie Prints, Ellie Olsen of Ellie O’s, woodworker John Dippiton, painters Lorene Ireland and Amy Schuster, and more lined up along Cambridge and North Union Streets to display their vast selections of goods to the community. Renee Scarfone Gillies of Skar Designs was also in attendance, selling her homemade jewelry “intended to stir your soul and infuse beauty, peace, and love into your life,” as was Holly Estrow of Blue Print Nantucket, who captures the island’s “quintessential nautical hues” in her signature greenish-blue prints.
